Welcome to Pinfold frames the home of hand crafted Cycle Speedway Frames. Each frame is made to order from high end world renowned Columbus or Reynolds tube. A steel alloy similar to 4130 cro mo. Super strong and light.
This is because of its strength. Double butted and thin walled, less than 1 mm. For example a typical tube may be 0.9 mm at either end and 0.7 mm in the middle section.
I'm not a fan of Aluminium as it easily fatigues and cracks. Steel alloy has an almost infinite fatigue life and the modern tubing is almost comparable in weight to Aluminium and gives a much more compliant ride, i.e. feels lively in comparison to the dead feel of Aluminium.
Handle Bars
The Pinfold Bars are the secret weapon in high performance ergonomics. They sweep back only 45 degrees instead of the standard 90 degrees. This is a far more natural hand position and creates a lot more leverage enabling greater power to be applied to the pedals out of the gate and exiting the turns.
